Organization

American Singles Golf Association (ASGA)

ASGA is a nationwide singles golf organization with headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It originated from the Charlotte Singles Golf Association, which, within two years of it's founding had grown to 175 members.

Drawing from this success, ASGA was formed as a non-profit corporation in 1996 and began a national publicity campaign to let people know that there were alternatives to bars and nightclubs.

In a matter of 24 months, 4000+ people had called in to inquire about forming or joining a local chapter.  By April, 1998, the organization’s two-year anniversary, nineteen chapters had been set-up throughout the United States.

For more information about the ASGA organization, visit the National Chapter web site at - www.singlesgolf.com

The Washington DC Chapter

Singles Golf DC is the Washington DC Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association (ASGA).  Originally founded and organized by Rich Wilhelm in 1999, Singles Golf DC has grown to be the premier singles-oriented golf group in the DC area.  Currently comprised of more than 300 single golfers from the Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia area, it is one of the largest and most active ASGA Chapters.

We schedule different types of events throughout the year, although the our main focus is golf.  These events include outings at local Virginia and Maryland courses, happy hours, golf clinics, beach and golf trips with an occasional social event.  During the golf season, golf outings are normally scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, and most of these outings will include social get-togethers following golf.  We encourage new golfers to join our group and offer Friday evening golf clinics, as well as weekend clinics/golf for the beginners, or anyone interested in improving their game.   Our sole purpose is to provide a venue for local singles to meet and mingle, while enjoying one of the best sports around - golf.

Organization

ASGA Chapters are self-managed and self-run, with the direction and support of the National Chapter. All local chapter officers and committee members are unpaid volunteers, who unselfishly devote their time so that all of us can enjoy this golf-oriented singles group. That's right, our Board, as well as all of the Committee member appointments are voluntary positions - the only benefit is seeing others enjoy what the organization offers.  We all owe these individuals a debt of gratitude for their efforts throughout the year to make this Chapter one of the best.

All positions are held for one year, and these positions are filled though by a normal election process.  Individuals are nominated or volunteer for positions, and an election, open to all members, determines the committee members and board of directors.

In addition to these Chapter positions, we also enlist volunteers to be event coordinators.  These individuals assist in setting up an event, sending out event notifications and general coordination activities.  Anyone can volunteer as an event coordinator, and all members are encouraged to do so.

Following is a list of our Chapter Positions, as well as the general responsibilities for each of these positions.

President

The President presides over all official meetings of the club, supervises the affairs of the club and acts as CEO.  The President also serves as an ex-officio member of all committees, appoints such committees as authorized by the Board of Directors, prepares and formulates a budget, reports to the membership each February on the plans for the current year, presents an annual report to the club in December and plans a smooth transition to the incoming administration.

Social Committee

The Social Committee is responsible for all socials and related areas. This includes membership meetings, as well as securing membership meeting facilities and special program material for membership meetings. During the year you may want to invite some guest speakers for the monthly meetings, such as a local golf pro, a fashion show of the latest golf styles, swing analysis, safety for singles, dance instructor just to name a few.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for membership growth, activation of new members, membership retention, and the current database and roster. It is important to review your membership list with ASGA National on a regular basis to make sure that all members and inquiries are entered into the database and all information is correct. Submit any roster changes, addresses, e-mails, etc. to ASGA National.
